My next piece is ..."The dance".
The theme on this piece, is about a mother having her babies, loving them, raising them and then letting them go, so they can go out into the world to achieve their dreams.
Now, anyone who has experienced this, knows the joy that comes from raising and loving her babies. We raise them to become mature, loving, responsible adults. The hard part, is letting them go.
So let's see if I can explain how this piece came together...
I have mentioned before, that most of my art is created, based on what I am or have gone through in my life.
At the moment, I am learning to let go... My oldest, Ashley, will be leaving in a month to move out West. My husband's family is all out there, so she is moving out there to be close to them and is also going to finish college out there. This is the plan for all of us within the next 5 years. To move out West, to be close to family. My oldest son, just graduated from high school and is moving to Maryland, to attend college. He is a fire fighter on our local fire department and was accepted for a 4 year apprenticeship at a fire department in D.C. He is leaving in a couple weeks after my daughter leaves. I am losing both within the next couple of months. Don't get me wrong, I am very proud of both of my children and we have raised them to reach for their dreams and that is what they are both doing, but none the less...it still is hard. We still have one child left at home, Trevor, but in 3 years...he will be ready to fly.
So, with that said, I decided to make something that would reflect this.
We are having a rainy day, so the pictures are not the best, but hopefully you can capture the true essence of the piece.
This is when you first open the doors. I have created two panels to unfold to reveal a message.
This is when the piece is fully opened.
The doll face is inspired by the techniques that I learned from taking an on-line class with JoAnna Pierotti.
I have listed this in my etsy.
