Why is it, that you can go away for a couple of days, but it takes at least a couple of weeks to catch up....lol.
Remember a couple of weeks ago, I said that I would start showing some pictures of my house and studio, but behind every picture there is a story. Here is my first picture...
Now, most of my stories are about these 3 amazing kids. I have this hanging above one of my doors in our kitchen. I did a transfer behind glass plates and then coated it with a sealer. Where does the time go...Ashley is 21, Joshua is 18 and Trevor is 14, but as he will tell others....almost 15.
This story can be long, so I am giving you the short version. It starts like this, Ashley has always been very independent, bless her heart, but has always been determined to do it her way. So, a couple of years ago...we decided to go out of town and Ashley is house sitting. You see, she moved out when she was 18...determined that she can do this on her own (go to college and work full time) and I have to tell you, if anyone can do it, that is Ashley. Not only did she go to college full time, but also worked full time and loved it. It might not be the best for everyone, but for her...it was just what she thrived on.
Well, as I was saying, she was house sitting. The two boys were with Tom and I. All she had to do was come over and check on the house. Her boyfriend at the time and her came over and decided to cook a pizza in the oven. At that time, my french doors going out of my studio would automatically lock, so everyone was told not to use them, until I could replace the locks. Being that the house was locked up tighter than Fort Knox's, due to us being away, they decided to go out that door and wait outside while the pizza was cooking. They had stayed out later than they thought and realized that the pizza was starting to smoke. Since, they couldn't get back into the house, they started to freak out, trying to find a way in. By this time, they realize there is no way to get in without breaking a window and considering that we had just replaced the windows with new ones and expensive ones, they decided on plan 2. At this point, the house is now full of smoke....Plan 2...that would be going into our garage and cutting a hole into the attic and then proceed to cut a hole into the ceiling of my kitchen. Since, we were only two days from being home they had to jump into gear and repair the damage. Her boyfriend was a carpenter, so no problem....wrong!!! With only two days away and working with dry wall, there is a step system for a reason. If you try to hurry up the process, it will look clumpy and done poorly. Well, they thought we have no other option and went for it.
You can image what it probably looked like. When we came home, she told us what had happen. We first tried not to laugh...then asked why didn't you just call us and we would of told you to just replace the drywall and we will fix the rest after we get home? Like most kids, it was her first time having this responsibility and didn't want to fail. After a hug and explaining that failure isn't when you make mistakes, it's when you can't see yourself making mistakes or admit them. We grow from our mistakes and learn from them and in return makes us a better person.
Long story short...since the ceiling had to be redone in that spot, my husband decided...hey, why don't we just add new lighting at this point. I didn't want a new project, so what turned out to be a small project, ended up being a big project...lol. Not only did we replace the lighting, took a wall down and then a new kitchen island. I know that somewhere out there, they have done commercials on this one...lol. I still laugh at how kids think sometimes, but then adults aren't so much better either...lol.
My next story will be about the kitchen island...This is one big butcher block. It had to be redone 2 times. First time, the manufacture had a flaw in it and they discovered it before shipping it out. The second time, after it was installed, a flaw...called expecting to have to fight them on this. We sent them pictures on it and without blinking an eye, stated that a new one was on the way. I asked, what do I do with the old one...they stated, keep it. Now, Nellie's brain is turning....can you hear it. New table top for Nellie's studio...yep, I can see it now...lol. As you can see in this picture, ceiling wasn't yet done. We had just gotten kitchen island in.
Story to come...new studio table top
