Well, like most of you...I am tired of this snow/cold weather and am so ready for Spring! So, whenever I find myself getting some of the blues, I either drag out the board games, computer games or I create. Well, in this case I did all of them...lol
Here is what I have been working on these last few days;

I have been finishing up on a couple of special orders and decided to take a walk out to our mailbox on Saturday and this is what was waiting for me...
My friend Joy Osterland, made this apron of Joy, Patricia and me. Now, how did I come to know these ladies...well, about 5 or 6 years ago, I use to teach art classes, until I got sick 3 years ago, and in one of my classes, I met these two ladies. Now, you know how you attend a class and you meet someone that you connect with and they just make your day brighter? Well, these ladies did that for me. They are so funny to be with and this past October as I was heading out to Art and Soul, in Portland, Oregon, little did we know, that we were all on the same flight heading there. So, you can imagine our surprise and then to find out the we were actually sitting by each other. Now, talk about God's hand in this one. Long story short, we had a blast...now, if you talk to them, they will tell you stories about me and how driving with me, will require a shot of something strong...lol I am not a bad driver, it just seems that anyone that hangs out with me, whether we are in a car or just hanging out somewhere, we tend to get ourselves into things...nothing bad (elevators, cars, restaurant's, classes, people flashing certain things), just situations that will keep you laughing or feel like you need a strong drink. So, little did I know that Joy who is a Realtor, also does sewing on the side. She makes these aprons with images of people and in this case, one with the 3 of us. Well, back to finishing up my orders. Hope everyone is having a bright and sunny day!
Ever since I have joined the blog world, I am forever amazed at the giving that people do, whether that be thru a phone call, an e-mail, wishing you a bright day or gifts in the mailbox. I am truly thankful for this venue where you are able to meet new friends, connect with old ones and be able to touch one another half way across the world. I have been blessed to have been able to meet amazing people thru this. Today, was no except when I went to the mailbox and I received this box of goodies, from a sweet friend...Vikki Tucker.
I love these goodies and can't wait to work with them. Thank you, Vikki...you made my day with your generous gift of the heart.
I have been busy trying to caught my breath... I went out the Las Vegas for 4 days on a business trip, never been there and had lots of fun. The temp's were in the high 60's and what fun we had not having to put on layers of clothes, boots, etc., just to stay warm. We left there and returned to -10 degrees...yikes what a shock to one's system. One of the things that I love about the West is the wide open land and mountains. One can really connect with one's inner self out there. That being said, I came home wanting to create something that would express how I felt being there. I originally did not have the intention of creating a book, but after creating the focal point of my piece, I felt that instead of hanging it on a wall, it would be best on the front cover of a book. The spine is part of a vintage ledger dating 1800's. My friend Dorthe Hansen from Denmark, sent me some driftwood that I also incorporated into my pieces. I used a box and filled it with vintage papers, bird's nest/ egg, words and then filled it with resin.
The words on the resin reads as; "Cleaving the sky, Sun, moon and stars forgot, uupward I fly, still all my song shall be, nearer my God, to thee, nearer to thee". If you have ever been out in the mountains and watch birds, eagles, etc. flying upward, it is an awesome sight, you actually feel that the higher and higher they fly, they actually can reach heaven.
Now for this piece, a long time ago, I had an encounter with a lady and after our conversation as we were parting, she used the words, "till we meet again". Now, this really intrigued me. So, I asked, why do you say that instead of goodbye? She stated, that we never really say goodbye, for all of us, will one day meet again either here on earth or with our Father in heaven, so if I don't meet you again here on earth, then until we meet again, in heaven. I thought what a wonderful perspective she had, so when I came across this verse in a book, I felt that this was my way of saying to everyone that I have ever met, whether that be in person, phone or Internet, until we meet again.
My next set of books are also in the white and cream colors. I am finding that I really enjoy working with these colors again.
This mini book measures roughly 5 1/2 x 6 1/2. I designed this book to allow a person to jump right in and start journaling, scrapbooking, etc. I have included some goodies that will help with this process.
This book measures roughly 9 1/4 x 7. I handmade this book out of vintage fabrics, lace, leather, etc. I have placed fabrics, tissue papers, vintage lined papers along with blank papers inside of it. There are no words or images inside of this book. I used 3 vintage tins to hold words and resin that were attached to the front that reads; footprints of ones heart.
I will be listing these also on my etsy later this evening or sometime tomorrow.
I sure hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season these past few weeks. I had not realized that, I hadn't posted for awhile. December is our busiest time for our trucking business and with shopping, wrapping presents ,visiting with friends and creating, I guess time slipped away from me.
I love this time of year...(New Year's eve) Everyday is a new beginning, but with celebrating New Year's day, it reinforces that for me. I get a chance to reflect on the past year, but also look forward to new beginnings, new friendships, reconnecting with old ones, creating my art, etc... On that note, I have been busy creating, trying to grab any free time (not much, most of it, is after everyone is asleep), but any free time is good enough for me. Here are a couple of the things that I have completed and will list in my etsy within the next day or so. I still have another piece to show everyone in the next day or so;
I really love this book and how it came about. I received an e-mail from a lady that asked if I have ever made a book with white and cream colors. I told her that a few years ago, a friend's daughter was getting married and I made her a wedding book. I used her invitations, flowers, etc. in her book to make it more personal. With this thought, I decided to make a book, that could either be used as a scrapbook for someone's wedding, courtship, the birth of a baby, etc.
The size of this book is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2. The spine of this book is 3 1/4. I didn't plan on the spine being this big, but as I was making the pages, I just kept having creative moments and the next thing I know, I needed to make a spine that could fit them all in.
I decided to incorpate alot of things that I have either been given, received presents in or found along the way.
The next item is an altered composition book. I love the image of these three kids and how it reminds me to never lose the inner child.
