Early Morning Thoughts

Newest work...

Well, I have been busy trying to make some Christmas goodies for family and friends and did find some time to make a couple of things.  I just love my Christmas bird ornaments that I handmade and constructed myself.  I made a box to allow the person to store this away without getting damage.  My next item is a vintage composition book.  I assume that most people who visit my blog, knows that I love the vintage look and this one is no exception.  This one is one of my favorites.  I love the look of the wire and twine.  It reminds me of the old days, where they didn't have alot of supplies to wrap there items, so they would used twine or even wire.  The image was given to me by my good friend, Lori Lundy.  I love how the kids are each waiting there turn to mail off there letter, whether that be a Christmas card, Valentine card, etc.

It's beginning to look like Christmas...

Well, we got dumped with over 8 inches of snow this week....so, I guess we can finally use the saying that, It's beginning to look like Christmas.  It was 9 degrees this morning...yikes!  Oh, well, I do love Christmas, so I guess I will have to drag the flannel's and wool socks out.  Oh, how I love making snow angels, snowmen, etc....

I have been busy creating...I dropped off a load of items to our local shop.  I did add a few items to my etsy.  Shown below are the items:

The Angels sang...

My lastest book, "The angels sing" is 3 1/2 x 6.  The covers are out of a vintage hyme book that was falling apart.  I love the smallness of this piece.  I didn't add, all of my bells and whisles like I normally due.  This book kept speaking to me, that it needed to be done by the person who gets its, so I added my vintage fabrics, dye fabrics and a few special pieces here and there and left it alone from that point.  I was able to come by a mini photo album page that was perfect for the front of this book.

Newest book...

Ok, I have finally finished my lastest book, this one has taken me longer than usually.  I love this one and how it turned out.  Since alot of people have a hard time with facing a blank page and getting started, whether that be writing, drawing, sketching, scrapbooking, etc., I decided to turn a composition book around and do the whole thing for them.  This book has a number of finished pages and all you have to do is decide if you would like to write, drawing, etc.  I love the feel of holding this book and knowing that the pages are done.  I have left areas on each page if you should decide to write, but even if you don't, it still looks done.  I have also left whole blank pages for a person to fill in, however they would like.

I just had to share what I received in the mail today... this wonderful angel doll ornament.  I was so touched that Dorthe, would want to make me something.  I can't wait to hang it on my Christmas tree next month, you see, my tree consist of all handmade ornaments from over the years.  Every year, my hubby, kids and anyone else that happens to be there make 3 ornaments to hang on the tree, then when the kids have their own families, I will give them 2 ornaments from each year.  How cool is that, a neat tradition that doesn't cost much, but oh, what fun we have sitting around the table making them.  Glitter, glue and paper up to our elbows...  Thanks, Dorthe, this precious gift will be added to our tree for all to see in the years to come.

The Christmas book

Well, I have to say, this has to be one of my all time favorite books that I have made in a long time.  Maybe, because it's Christmas or it could be, because it reminds me of my childhood, regardless of what it is, it sure will be a book to treasure for years to come.

Having fun

Well, if there is one thing that I think is important about creating art is having fun while you do it.  Sometimes, I find that because I sell my art thru a number of different avenues that if I am not careful , it can start to feel like a job.  So, when I start to find myself feeling these emotions, that is when it is time to take a break and be a kid again.  So, today, I raked up the ton of leaves in our yard and played...  So, by doing this, it allowed me to come back in and create some books...

I am loving this one...I layered different vintage papers and then painted like a child would do and then layered some music paper and a angel that one of my boys did years ago. (a reprint that is).  I then spread a thin layer of beeswax over the piece.

Now, this one, I have to say speaks to me in such a child like way.  I love holding this book and I find, that I need to make one for myself.  This has vintage quilt piece, vintage lace, vintage book cover, vintage feedsack, fabric, vintage papers and a photo page from a vintage album.
