I wasn't planning on doing anymore journals for a few days, but after I came across this photo in my stash of images, I just knew that this needed to be on a journal.
I have painted the dresses with paints. I took a class a few years back with Karen Michel to learn how to paint color on photos. Not only is she an awesome teacher, but had a ton of knowledge to share with us. It was well worth the money that I spent on this class.
I did this photo in sepia tones and left the girl's dresses alone.
I did up a couple of mini journals with the same image.
Well, that is it for now....I listed these in my etsy, check them out!
This is what I created this weekend in my studio...
This piece represents all of us who have wonder, will today be the day that I get to fly... We all have dreams and to each of us that represents something different. We sometimes feel confined by the waiting and wonder, will today be the day...
For this piece, it represents how you meet someone for that first time and it changes everything, whether that be a stranger, friend or love one...Would I still be the person I am today, if I had never met that person. Sometimes, we only get one encounter with someone and it changes everything...
This piece is a special one...we all have a destination and it is how we achieve that destination that counts. Did I have to step on others to achieve it...? The greatest reward is not reaching the end, but how we encounter each day and treat others in that journey that counts...
Well, that is my weekend journey, hope yours was everything that you wanted and more...
This next Journal is a message about love, learning, understanding and applying what we learn. There is an old saying that, "it takes a village to raise a child", and I believe that. Not everyone gets the opportunity to have the perfect life and so, for the most part, it takes God, friends, next of kin or even strangers to help teach a child the lessons in life that help shape the person that they are to become. So, with that message in mind, I created this book.
I wonder how many of us would still venture down a road if we were given advance notice that today would be the day... Having that thought cross my mind, allowed me to make this next Journal.
I have always been drawn towards trees and nature. It allowed me to be able to escape into a peaceful world as I was growing up. Growing up in an abusive home, a child needs to find security and peace and this is where I was drawn to, alot of times.
As I have mentioned before, metal represents strength, birds are expressing the freedom to fly with whatever your heart desires, trees show there ability to stand against any storm that comes their way. Anything that is vintage, represents past ancestors that help shape the person we are today and also, it shows their evidence of existence. Fabrics are showing us a soft place to fall. Numbers represents to me, that each of us only have a short time here on earth and it is up to each of us how we chose to live those days. I want to look back onto my life and know that I made a difference not only in the eyes of my family, but strangers too.
I am soooo loving, making these dolls. I came into a lot of them and had originally had them planned for a different event, but like life, things change and it is up to each of us how we chose to accept change. I for one am learning to love change, it keeps things fresh and new. Now, anyone knowing me, knows that you would of never heard me saying that 5 years ago. But sometimes, when one is put thru some major health issues, it changes a person. You can embrace the new you or chose to stay put and get stuck. That being said, this is one of these dolls that I made this weekend...
I listed her in my etsy...check her out. I love the vintage look of her and the layers of vintage fabric, trim and ribbon.
I was given the award of Brillante Weblog from another fellow blogger Annette Emms from Fairy Shoes and Other Things. Check out her site. As I am fairly new to this blog world, I sure have enjoyed making new friends and sharing a common interest in our love for art. Thanks Annette!
This is how it works, I now award up to 7 blogs that inspire me... The rules are as follows:
Put the logo on your blog
Add a link to the person that nominated you
Nominate up to 7 other blogs
Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs
Ok, this is a hard one, there are so many wonderful blogs that inspire me and I would love to list each one, but I am only allowed up to 7.
Well, I made it in time... In a previous post, I mentioned that I was working on some necklaces for a close friend of mine and her daughters. I had 5 in total to make and since one of her older daughters was heading to Mexico this week for 6 months, I started to feel the pressure, "will I get these done in time". Sure, if I had all day to work in my studio, no problem...but since that is not possible at this point in my life, I needed to pick up some speed and get these babies done. This is what I came up with:
Each necklace reflects the girl that received it...On each necklace I place words that symbolized part of who they are...the words were placed in a spot that most would not be able to see it.
With this necklace, I added the word, Spirit, to the front of her body, the picture was taken before I added it. Also, this necklace was inspired by the classes that I have taken with Nina Bagley and how she uses bisque dolls in her art.
As you can see, I like to use keys in my art. Keys represent the each of us holds the answers to our destiny, it's just up to us, whether or not, we chose to embrace it.
I am bummed about the quality of the pictures, I was in such a hurry to get these done, that I quickly took the photos and didn't double check to see if they had turned out ok.
This is a piece that I did for Moss Hill Studios. As I wrote in a previous post about being on the design team for Moss Hill Studios, we were sent 2 collage sheets to create from. I chose Vivi's dress #0001-3 and Favorite things F-0001. From these sheets we could create whatever our heart desires. I had a ton of fun creating this piece...
As you can see, I created a theme surrounding a dress for sale. I love the nest with eggs sitting on top of the hanger.
How many of us, growing up had to hang their clothes on a clothes line outside (totally embarrassing, I have to say)? Well, I can remember seeing birds creating their nest on the post.
The sign behind the canvas, "Special Today" came from the favorite things sheet.
This is just one of the many collage dress sheets that I used, you can see all of the designs at, Moss Hill Studio.
Well, I am off to see what else I can come up with.
